Achieving optimal dental health through diet, hygiene and optimal dental care. Jay Harris Levy, DDS
Of the many factors that foster dental health, diet and nutrition are at the top of the list. Sure, you need to brush and floss properly, have a good bite, and good genes don’t hurt, but eating well trumps all other factors, hands down! There is a unique "dental" perspective to diet and nutrition that Dr. Weston Price pointed out over 80 years ago. Dr. Price demonstrated that consumption of refined foods can have a devastating effect on the teeth, gums and facial development. Perhaps even more disturbing is the influence that these "pseudo-foods" have on the growth and development of the child's airway and on tooth alignment.
My presentation will discuss how to structure eating and cleaning habits to foster optimal dental heath. In addition to discussing Dr. Price’s work I will talk about why excessive consumption of acidic fruits and vegetables can erode away tooth enamel and weaken teeth. I will also address questions many patients have asked about the relative safety of dental materials and dental procedures.
